What a week it’s been for Jennifer Lawrence! Just days after the first campaign shots of her as the new face of Miss Dior were released, the Silver Linings Playbook actress took home the covetable Best Actress award at last night’s Oscars, dressed rather aptly in Dior Haute Couture. Despite a minor mishap as she took to the stage to receive her award, the 22 year old actress stunned in the elaborate, strapless Dior dress, accessorised with simple drop earrings and a long, cascading necklace that accentuating her bare, toned back.
In a distinct departure from the usual bright, jewel tones of the Oscars, this year, the red carpet was awash with muted, nude tones ranging from fresh, light cream to the palest of pink and every barely-there beige in between. Proving that sometimes less really is more. In colour palette at least!
An injured Kristen Stewart, dressed in heavily embroidered tulle Reem Acra, hobbled up the red carpet (assistant one step behind) with a pair of crutches and sporting flats beneath couture. Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfriend plumped for a sequin embellished Alexander McQueen gown, complete with train and peep hole, whilst Jessica Chastain, nominated for her role in Zero Dark Thirty, matched her shimmering bronze Armani Prive gown to her enviable flame-hued hair. Best Supporting Actress, Anne Hathaway, shunned her signature Valentino dresses for a simple, pale pink Prada sheath dress accessorised with a sparkling diamond Tiffany necklace.
As gorgeously gilded as the Oscar trophies themselves, a whole host of Hollywood A-listers gleamed on the red carpet. Naomi Watts, who would have taken home the Best Dressed prize of the night, looked exquisite in a gunmetal grey Armani Prive dress complete with asymmetric cutout. Meanwhile, George Clooney’s other half Stacey Keibler looked elegant in a sleek, shimmering Naeem Khan metallic dress with high neckline and black skinny waist belt. Nicole Kidman wore a highly intricate black and gold embellished L’Wren Scott to dazzling effect, accompanied by the wrist-candy of the season, a gold Fred Leighton cuff. Catherine Zeta-Jones, rocked a gold-sequinned Zuhair Murad dress, in a similar cleavage-enhancing cut.
We love this midnight blue Roberto Cavalli number on Jennifer Hudson, it feels youthful and bright without looking out-of-place amongst the elaborate, long-trained gowns. Swedish actress Alicia Vikander, who stars in the 2012 adaptation of Anna Karenina, brought a subtle brightness to the red carpet proceedings in a duckegg blue Ellie Saab-inspired sheer lace dress, whilst Sandra Bullock also cut a lean figure in black lace Ellie Saab. We couldn’t love Kelly Osborne‘s Tony Ward dress more. Sparkly, beautifully cut and fun, thanks to the multiple strapped halter top. It’s a winner in our eyes.
