It’s that time of year, the red carpet of the 59th Grammy Awards will be rolling out on February 12. The nominees were released yesterday, and it’s no surprise that Queen B is led the pack with 9 nominations for Record of the Year (“Formation”), Album of the Year (“Lemonade”), Song of the Year (“Formation), Best Pop Solo Performance (“Hold Up”), Best Rock Performance (“Don’t Hurt Yourself”ft. Jack White), Best Urban Contemporary Album (“Lemonade”), Best Rap/Sung Performance (“Freedom” ft. Kendrick Lamar), Best Music Video (“Formation”), Best Music Film (“Lemonade”).
I wouldn’t be surprised if Adele walked away with Record of the Year, after winning all three of the most coveted awards five years ago. She’s got some pretty tough competition this year though, with Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Mike Posner and Lukas Graham on the nomination sheet for Song of the Year (as a Belieber myself, I’m pulling for Justin). My prediction for Best New Artist is easily The Chainsmokers, after topping the charts with “Closer” for 18 weeks (and counting) preceded by Roses for 31— and all of their songs are just so catchy.
Will The Chainsmokers win Best New Artist?
