Today Nicolas Ghesquière has announced that as of the end of this month he will be leaving the fashion house, Balenciaga, where he has been Creative Director since he was just 26 years old.
The “joint decision to end their working relationship as of 30 November 2012″ was made by Balenciaga parent company PPR and Ghesquière in a statement that reads “Cristóbal Balenciaga was a master, a genius whose avant-garde vision dictated fashion’s greatest trends and inspired generations of designers. With an incomparable creative talent, Nicolas has brought to Balenciaga an artistic contribution essential to the unique influence of the house.”
There is currently no word as to where the 41 year old critically acclaimed and influential designer is headed or indeed who will take his place at Balenciaga. And we can’t think of a single designer who could step into Nicolas’ much-loved shoes.
