The film is set in the early 1980s when large oil and gas deposits were discovered in the North Sea. Norwegian and American diving teams compete corporately to win the contract to bring the oil back to shore via an ocean bed pipeline built 500 metres below the surface. Aksel Hennie plats Petter, a Norwegian diver obsessed with reaching the depths needed to lay the pipeline. He takes on the experiment with his brother and an ambitious American diver (Wes Bentley). The adventure begins with all the camaraderie and excitement of an competitive grudge match sports game, but everything changes when a tragic accident causes suspicion, distrust and terror to seep into the expedition and events thereafter.
Chillingly the film is based on real events, the repercussions of which are still occurring now. It’s a conspiracy thriller with an international cast that is set to be a must-see this April. So much so that George Clooney and Grant Heslov have reportedly teamed up together once more to discuss a remake of it already.
