A TASTE OF THE OBSIDIAN JUICE PROGRAMME

December 15, 2014

December didn’t strike me as a good time to try the Obsidian juice programme. How annoying, I thought, to be juicing when everyone else is partying. But there is something that is super easy about this programme. Plus I’d seen a friend drop over a stone with seemingly very little effort and I was also feeling pretty toxic with too much Christmas spirit. Why wait till January?

The Obsidian juices arrived, free delivery in the UK, a week’s worth of them, all frozen. I do own a juicer and the main reason I don’t use it is because I hate cleaning it. Cleaning a juicer is always grim no matter how fancy the model. It’s always time consuming and irritating. Also no one wants a fridge full of wilting celery.

The juices are cold pressed, healthy and easy. You can have a choice of all green or a mixture of fruit and vegetables for the less hardcore.

The programme is designed for three, five, seven or 28 days, based on successful programmes at the Obsidian retreat in Spain.

By eliminating processed foods, sugars and other toxins such as alcohol and caffeine, your body will become alive, active, efficient. You will lose weight and feel happy. Except there are withdrawal symptoms; tiredness and headaches, nausea.

The first time I ever did a juice cleanse I thought my liver was going to explode, or at least something inside me. I had a bolt of iron shooting through my head at five second intervals from caffeine withdrawal and I vomited. Afterwards I felt the best I’d done in years and broke my six coffees a day habit.

I think it is very convenient to do a three day juice fast every week. Forget the 5/2 where you have to think about food the whole time, make it like a mathematical equation counting calories. This is delivered and easy.

It is only £55 for a three day programme, £120 for a seven day, which has got to be the most reasonably priced juice fest ever.

The founders of Obsidian are passionate about being all inclusive. They have had amazing results and super slimmers who have been fat all their lives shed stones on the juice diet and never put weight back on. And the founder herself, Carol, used to be a size 24 and is now a size 12-14 all thanks to her personal juice revolution.

The juices all taste delicious. ‘Detox’ for instance is cucumber, celery, apple, lemon, ginger, beetroot. The ‘Mean Green’ isn’t very mean; it is cucumber, celery, apple, kale, lemon, ginger.

You have four juices a day and the last one is always a sweet treat such as ‘Spa’; spinach, pineapple, apple, lemon.

The ‘Mean Green’ was made famous by Joe Cross in the documentary movie Fat, Sick And Nearly Dead. He credits the ‘Mean Green’ with saving his life.

Here’s what I found on this juice cleanse. It was pretty easy to stick to because the juices were delicious and I wasn’t hungry and I enjoyed the feeling that my body was being cleansed. They advise that if you want to do exercise while on the cleanse it is fine to do so and that most people find they have more energy. While I did feel mentally alert I felt physically exhausted. After it though I felt like I’d woken up after proper rest for a long time.
