Middle-aged filmmaker Josh Srebnick (Ben Stiller) and his wife, Cornelia (Naomi Watts), are happily married; but stuck in a rut. Their friends are all starting families, leaving them wondering what is missing from their lives.
In an apparent chance meeting with free-spirited young couple Jamie and Darby (Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried) it is like a breath of fresh air. Awakenen Josh and Cornelia’s lives, the young couple remind them of the idealistic, carefree and adventurous souls they once were.
Before you know it – it’s not long before the restless forty-somethings throw aside friends their own age to trail after the young hipsters who seem so plugged in, so uninhibited, so spontaneous. But whether the friendship can endure despite a 20-year age gap remains to be seen.
