Christopher Raeburn is a British fashion designer with a unique approach to creating his menswear, womenswear and accessories. He has best become known for his re-appropriation of military fabrics and in particular his iconic outerwear created with parachutes. The upcycled and re-made ethos still influences and guides Christopher Raeburns’  quirky aesthetic, and sustainable designs.

I went along to have a peek backstage at the Christopher Raeburn London Fashion Week show in Brewer Street, to have a look at the hair and makeup being prepped for the show…

In charge of hair was Batiste Stylist ambassador, Leigh Keates; who was working magic on the models’ hair to get them runway ready. On the makeup was Lotten Holmqvist from Julian Watson Agency, using Clarins.

Hair

When you think Batiste you think dry shampoo – well, they sure do that quick fix ever so well; now they’ve introduced a few more bits to their brand. They have their new stylist products, offering hair styling to us at its easiest. And if you don’t consider yourself a styling expert, no worries, this is a great range to get stuck into – these products simply require you to point, and spray. Also, they are all infused with Keratin and Inca Inchi Oil, so you’re caring for your hair as you style. Nice! Check out the range on BatisteHair.co.uk.

Talking about the hair for the show; Leigh described the influence to have come from Christopher Raeburn’s style of sustainability, military, and recycling materials. This appears mainly in the texture of the hair for this show to represent sweat, heat, humidity, a kind of worn-in but controlled mess.

Leigh Keates spoke about the process for this hairstyle, in which he started off with the Texturising Spray, to take away the softness of the hair to give it texture. He then uses plenty of the Plumping Powder, rubbed in to really give the texture a strong hold and a matte look. Frizz Tamer is then sprayed closely on the roots to bring out that damp, humid texture. And to finish, the Hairspray to hold everything in place, and even some on the bottom of the pony tail for a real messy look.

There are flyaway hairs coming out, the pony tail is loose and falling out slightly, to imitate a long-worn hairstyle. It’s not neat; it’s messy. To recreate at home, all you need is the collection of Batiste Styling Range; and a mirror and you’re all good to go.

Make Up

This look consisted of a strong, sold black liner all around the eyes with soft, natural skin with minimal tones.

Brows were groomed but left alone to their natural goodness; and lashes minimal and natural too.

The waterline was left nude, to really open up the eyes.
