Of course, London Fashion Week is predominantly about the clothes; but we’ve absolutely kept a close eye on the make-up too (I would say it is JUST as important..!) and at the looks emerging backstage; and what trends might be making an appearance next season.
Take a look at a selection of some makeup looks we thought were pretty damn lovely, and have noticed evolving from the spring/summer 2016 shows..
Nude beauty
Fresh, natural, youthful.
NARS created the look for the David Koma runway show, with full groomed brows and a defined yet natural skin. “The look is that of a kick boxing, ballet dancer on holiday. She is more black belt than black swan.” – Andrew Gallimore, NARS UK Makeup Artist Ambassador
The Antonio Berardi show sported a real natural look, a come-as-you are beauty. Shared via Instagram by MAC senior artist Dominic Skinner.
Shadowed Eyes
Dick Page created a dewy, warm look at Narciso Rodriguez, with a pink-brown tone applied around and below the eyes. One of several looks for Givenchy‘s much talked-about show, was Pat McGrath’s look which was applied to most models; giving them glowing skin and a wash of earthy tones shadowing around the eyes.
Strong lips nude eyes
At Burberry Prorsum, Wendy Rowe gave a selection of the models a rich, oxblood lip. The eyes have been left to their naturalness, Cant spot any mascara on this look to really focus on the lip. Diane Kendal was the lead make-up artist at Oscar de la Renta, in which some of the models sported matte red lips and nude eyes.
Clean, Clumpy Lashes
For the Mary Katrantzou show, lashes in the just the middle of the top and bottom lids were coated with layer upon layer of clumpy coloured mascara with the eye area clean, contrasting against the textured lashes. DAKS also piled-on mascara with a clean skin finish – with an edge. Skin is gleaming and fresh, letting the eyes do all the talking.
Slept-In Eyes
At Topshop Unique, Hannah Murray imperfectly applied a red lip, with slightly flushed cheeks and a smudgy, slept-in eye look. François Nars was also the man behind a smudgy, out-all-night make-up look for Marc Jacobs, with a faint pink stain on the lips, smeared blue shadow on the eyes and plenty of mascara. Alex Box instagrammed a photo montage of looks she’d created backstage, all with a worn-all-day-and-night look to the eyes.
Strong Brows
Terry Barber directed make-up for the Jean-Pierre Braganza show that created soft eyes, with perfected skin and bold brows. NARS created the look for the Christopher Kane show, lead artist Lucia Pieroni describes this makeup; “She is a creation coming out of a destruction. A raw and undone girl, unaware about her own beauty. Bushy and feral brows and effortless skin. Naïve beauty that is childlike and honest.”
