LFW: AW16 WEEKEND OVERVIEW

February 22, 2016

By Hannah Powling

It was a big one this weekend, as London Fashion Week swung into its second and third day; with models showcasing an array of new season styles from huge designers including Sibling, Holly Fulton, House of Holland, Vivienne Westwood and McQueen…

Here is a look at our favourite shows from Saturday, with some backstage beauty highlights squeezed in there too:

SIBLING

Sibling presented an alternative bold techno style, with punchy lilac and yellow against bold black prints. The latest offerings are not for the faint hearted! The brand is known for its young and urban style approach, and this season bore a slight 80’s feel – with bodysuits, large headphones and giant collars.

The collection features lots of knitwear and fun pom pom earrings to complete the looks.

Inspired by the beauty of Grace Jones, the makeup consisted of bold glossy lips and nude eyes.

JULIEN MCDONALD

All of the glitzy gowns at Julien McDonald featured a mixture of slick metals, dramatic gowns, skin-tight jumpsuits draped in long fringing; with an all over disco chic vibe.

We’re certain we will be seeing these gorgeous gowns on various red carpets soon…

The designer also gave us a sneak peak of an upcoming childrenswear range at LFW, with the help of two little models to help close his AW16 show.

HOLLY FULTON

The print was like looking through a microscope – with lab coat-esque coats with paisley shapes to complete the collection.

Scottish designer Holly Fulton’s AW16 show gave us strong science-y vibes, with the models walking through a gigantic deconstructed ‘bucky ball’ – a spherical molecular shape – to make their way onto the catwalk.

Heavily spritzed beach hair knotted into buns, with silver foil embellishing the eyes.

HOUSE OF HOLLAND

There couldn’t be more colour and texture squished into one show; giving us a whole new meaning to the word ‘busy’. House of Holland truly put on a visually overwhelming catwalk on Saturday – in the best way. With chainmail flapper dresses, polka dot tea dresses and printed silk slips meet fuzzy tiger print trousers and metallic ruffle-tiered skirts.

House of Holland came to LFW with a bang, rocking a glam mesh of prints, colours and OTT accessories..

The makeup looks for HOH were numerous too; from bold brows, statement liner, big red lips and 70’s curly do’s.

Gareth Pugh

London Fashion Week is known for its weird and wonderful trends, and Gareth Pugh is definitely one of those shows this season.. The British designer held his AW16 show, with his season style screaming eerie 40’s and 50’s horror. The British designer held his AW16 show at the Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden and sent models wearing Hannibal Lecter masks down the catwalk.

According to makeup artist Val Garland, the beauty for Gareth Pugh was like ‘Joan Crawford if she was Hannibal Lecter’s mistress’. Val used elastic from a pair of American Tan tights and stretched it under the cheekbones. This makes the cheeks look like they are super plumped up and lifted the top lip too so it looked fuller. ‘The look is (painfully) gorgeous’ she added.
