A sweet, thought provoking and introspective look into the turmoils of a tight knit trio of friends, as Freddy and Mo (a couple) each try to get their friend Polly (Kristen Wiig) pregnant through sperm donation. Their lives are complicated as Freddy tries to live as a struggling performance artist, which already puts a strain on his own relationship. Then you have the constant disruption from their mentally ill neighbour The Bishop, that’s a whole other story. Wiig is always so fun to watch on screen, you always care for her characters and this one sure is complicated. It has its funny and sentimental moments and deals with a tricky subject with a lot of honesty and humour at times.
Acknowledged for its interesting character study, Nasty Baby won the “Teddy” Best Feature Film Award at Berlin International Film Festival 2015. Along with Wiig and Silva, it also stars Tunde Adebimpe, and will be released in UK cinemas on 8th April 2016.
