Interested in what San Francisco has to offer besides the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf? There are tons of shops and eateries that are hidden in the large city, and if you ever have a chance to travel they are definitely worth the visit.
If you do visit Fisherman’s Wharf it is tons of fun to explore the entirety of Pier 39, but make sure to not skip over the hidden gem that is San Francisco Sock Market which, not surprisingly, is exactly what it sounds like. It is an entire shop all of socks varying in lengths, colors, and designs. Also, if you’re lunching in Pier 39, local favorite is the Eagle Cafe which has been open for over 80 years, with great seafood and an even better view of the water.
Enjoying a baseball game at AT&T park is something every person will advise you to do, but don’t skip over the entire experience! The Giants Dugout Store is the only appropriate place to buy authentic SF gear, and the Lucky Strike bar is right around the corner from the stadium, which behind its cool, hipster atmosphere is a bowling alley in the back. So if you do find yourself at a baseball game and hate it – there is a quick escape.
While walking around Golden Gate Bridge, a good stop is to cruise around Amoeba Music a huge independent record shop that has thousands of bands and musicians to pick from. Also the Golden Gate Bakery, connected into Chinatown, isn’t exactly a hidden spot, but you have to know to order the egg custard tart which can only be described as life changing.
Obviously, the biggest brand names and huge stores are a fun shopping day in Union Square, but don’t forget about the independent boutiques and shops as well. Two great locations are Picnic, a boutique which sells gorgeous home design supplies, gifts and clothes, and Nancy Boy, whose motto is “ingredients not advertising” and prides itself on selling essential oil-based hair and skin products. You’ll see the words “organic,” “natural,” and “healthy” everywhere in SF, but Nancy Boy is the real deal as their products are rejuvenating and do wonders for your skin and hair.
