One of my favourite Christmas films…perhaps even my favourite Christmas film, is The Holiday. The glitz and glamour of Cameron Diaz’ LA abode is stunning, but my favourite scenes by far are those where her character is swathed in cashmere and nestled in Kate Winslet’s Cotswold cottage. Everything just seems so idyllic, from the roaring fire and stone mantlepiece, to the country lanes iced with fluffy white snow and the holly-wreath-decked village shop.
And whilst I know that Hollywood seriously sets the scene when it comes to English quaintness, if you have ever been to the Cotswolds, you will know that the beautiful countryside scene depicted in the film isn’t that far from actuality.
To that end, could there be anything better than setting your own The Holiday-esque scene in the Cotswolds countryside this Christmas? Dormy House can make that particular festive wish come true. The cosy farmhouse re-opened this September and is offering a relaxing retreat with gorgeous entertainment and food this season. The low beams and exposed stone walls make up the 40 bedroom strong house. Guests can expect a warm welcome on Christmas Eve with a Winter Pimm’s reception and traditional Christmas Carols led by a local choir, all before dinner.
On Christmas morning, a Christmas stocking and full English breakfast awaits. Lunch boasts a visit from Father Christmas himself as well, of course, as a glorious Christmas lunch with all the trimmings. If you can manage any more food, an evening buffet is served in The Potting Shed. And it doesn’t stop there! Boxing Day begins with brunch accompanied by a Bloody Mary of Bucks Fizz, and you can brave the cold and watch the North Cotswold Hunt gather on Broadway High Street before tucking into a four course dinner at The Garden Room, accompanied by music from a jazz trio.
The three-night Christmas package at Dormy House starts from £765 per person based on two people sharing, and includes breakfast each morning, Christmas luncheon and all evening meals. Brunch on Boxing Day is also included, along with drinks as listed.
