BareMinerals Makeup Artist Answers our Q’s..

November 2, 2015

By Hannah Powling

Searching for makeup brushes can be a tricky task – there are so many to choose from that all carry out unique and individual application processes, and give different results depending on which product you use them with. The possibilities are endless.

Mineral makeup brand bareMinerals are well-known for their innovative makeup brushes; and we wanted to know what sets their tools apart from the rest; and what better person to ask than bareMinerals very own International Makeup Artist?

We caught up with Sarah-Jane Froom herself to see what her favourite brushes to use are, her must-have products and how to perfect your contouring skills…

bareMinerals International Makeup Artist Sarah-Jane Froom answers our questions…

The Perfecting Face Brush is such a unique shape and design. How did you come up with such an innovative design? What hairs/bristles have you used and why?
The Perfecting Face Brush (£24) was a big hit for bareMinerals, thanks to its unique ‘well’ in the middle of the brush. It was launched alongside bareMinerals’ first ever liquid foundation last year, the bareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation (£26), as a way to control and distribute the foundation as seamlessly as possible across the face.

The brush is made from synthetic fibres which help to achieve sheer-full coverage of the foundation.

How long did it take to develop/perfect this, and get onto the shelves?
bareMinerals are constantly looking at ways to improve and develop our brushes. We are the number 1 brush brand in the UK so want to stay at the forefront!

Is this design exclusive to BareMinerals?
The Perfecting Face Brush is patented to bareMinerals.

What is your most popular make up brush?
The majority of our customers buy the brushes that match each foundation, as they know that it will get the best results, although the Perfecting Face Brush remains one of our most popular.

What would be your go-to eye brushes for the best smokey eye that anyone could use with ease?
I like the bareMinerals Tapered Shadow Brush (£12) as it has a tightly tapered, dome-shaped brush head to provide medium colour intensity for eyes, followed by the Eye Defining Brush (£14.50) which has an angled brush head that allows you to blend, smudge and detail with ease.

bareMinerals have a lot of loose powders. For those who aren’t used to using/wearing loose powders, and find them a bit scary, what would be your tips for application?

At bareMinerals we always recommend the Swirl, Tap, Buff® technique in order to get the most seamless, natural application. Simply tap some of the powder into the lid, swirl the brush around, tap off any excess and buff the brush across the skin. To build the coverage, keep buffing!

The big buzzword in makeup right now is contouring. What do you make of it and what natural tips and tools would you recommend if you had to round it up in a quick demo to a customer?
Contouring has been around for a long time but was really made famous by Kim Kardashian! Contouring is about creating shadows and light to help sculpt the face, for example, by dusting a darker bronzer or foundation in the hollows of the cheeks, under the jawline and up to the temples to narrow the face then adding a highlighter along the highs of cheekbones and down the centre of the face.

When choosing the darker shade, I recommend choosing a foundation two shades darker to your natural skintone and blending well so that you don’t see any harsh lines. One of my favourites is the new bareMinerals Seamless Shaping & Finishing Brush (£28), which has a diamond shape and super soft natural fibres for the smoothest application and blending.

Any tips on how to mix liquids/powders successfully?
If you will be mixing liquid and powder make-up then I recommend applying all of the liquid elements first before going over the top with powder.

And finally – If you had to pick one, (let’s say you were stuck on a desert island) what is your must-have product from BareMinerals and why?
For me it is the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (£26) as it so multi-purpose! It is super moisturising, contains buildable coverage and even has SPF30 to protect my skin whilst I was on the desert island!
