I remember growing up to the smell of my mother’s perfume Shalimar by Guerlain. It was heady and exotic and the distinctive bottle – which looks like a cross between a heart and an urn – was always kept in its box which became over the years yellowed and pungent.
They say that smell works on the synapses, the quickest of all the senses, and the smell of it right now takes me back to being a pre-teen wondering when I would grow up and wear perfume.
Guerlain, the name itself, conjures a time past where women were dainty and sexy. Their bottles are always charming and their scents so well thought out.
Guerlain Cherry Blossom 125ml (£168.00) is a re-edition of a 1999 scent. It comes in a gorgeous glass bottle with bees all over it. It is delicate and fresh. Top notes of green tea and bergamot, but as it lifts it comes over all cherry and jasmine with an inexplicable powderiness.
The scent itself is very timeless but I find it somehow nostalgic and a lovely spring thing.
