When I was told that Kelly Osbourne and mother Sharon were collaborating with MAC Cosmetics for a capsule collection. Well, I don’t mind saying I was a little horrified. I can get on board with Disney collaborations, it makes for cute packaging. I’m not the biggest fan of Lorde, but with her signature statement lip? A namesake lipstick was inevitable, and of course designer acts like Proenza Schouler are always going to come up with must-have ranges. But the Osbournes? Surely not.
So when it came to casting my eyes over the new collection, I was taken aback to discover one of the most wearable MAC ranges I have come across for a while. The collection is heralded as a ‘vibrant selection of statement-making hues for eyes, lips, face and nails’, though apart from a couple of lipsticks on the more vivid side, I’d say the new range errs more on the subtle, which works for me!

My favourite piece comes from the violet side of the collection, presumably dedicated to the lilac tones of Kelly’s hair shade of the moment. It’s the Bloody Brilliant Quad (£33.00) (love the Brit spin there). The colours included are Tickety Boo (a soft muted plum), Fizzy Rose (a pale pink), Spoonful of Sugar (a pearlised mink), and Shadowy Lady (a dark matte brown). These are the sorts of colours I stick to myself so I was instantly won over. I’d make an eager grab at these if you’re a brunette. Add a flick of the Jumbo Penultimate Liner in Rapidblack (£19.00). You all know I’m a fan of felt tip like black liners, so this one was always going to be a winner, and blot a little of the Kelly Yum-Yum Lipstick (£16.50) on lips lightly with fingers to create a stained effect. The blue undertones in this colour will make a slight tan pop beautifully.
The red packaged side of the collection, again a tribute to the hair colour of its key influencer, boasts a range of Paintpolish Lip Pencils (£16.00), thick, glide-on pencils in sheer but vivid colours.
Oddly enough I’d say this is the collection to really invest in this season. The pairing may be a tad unexpected, but the products are ones you’ll use time and time again. And that’s a pretty darned good thumbs up.
