Booksmart is not just another teen comedy about high school best friends and the bonds we create that last a lifetime, this film is so on-topic and current for now and will be enjoyed by all ages. One of the girls came out as gay in college and it’s not even a big thing in the storyline, so refreshing it is just accepted and dealt with so maturely. Olivia Wilde directs, her debut, and if like me you are a fan you will know how smart, funny and cool she is so that should give you an idea of how this film will play out.
Synopsis: Booksmart follows best friends Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever as they’re about to graduate from high school and realise they have never broken any rules. Not only that: they realise that many of their peers who have prioritised their social lives have managed to secure bright futures, as well. In an attempt to make some more “traditional” high school memories, the two set out on a wild night filled with what appears to be some hilariously over-the-top shenanigans.
The night is full of adventure; full of silliness, heartfelt conversations, college parties, crushes, kissing and the discovery for Amy and Molly that there is a life outside of their studies. The soundtrack is super upbeat and cool, it really adds to the energy of the film, you should def go and see this one. *If you are looking at Beanie’s face and thinking, she looks familiar, she is Jonah Hill’s sister.
