The British Academy Film Awards is just around the corner and preparation for the huge star-studded event is well and truly underway. So while we eagerly wait for Sunday to arrive, we have meticulously picked out all the things we are looking forward to spotting on our telly’s. Here’s our BATFA overview to make sure you don’t miss a thing…
The Stars

Classic British talent is being highlighted in many of the categories for the BAFTA’s this year. We are keeping our eyes peeled for the glamorous Maggie Smith and Cate Blanchett who have both been nominated for Best Actress in their respective films, The Lady in the Van and Carol.
Alicia Vikander has been nominated for both leading and supporting actress for her roles in Ex Machina and The Danish Girl. Her versatility between films and strong characters make her one to watch during this year’s BAFTA’s.
And of course Leonardo DiCaprio is up for an award for his critically-acclaimed and tremendous work in The Revenant which has already won him winning him a Golden Globe.. Who will take home their trophy?
The Style

Brie Larson can fashionably get away with just about anything and has yet to have a gown go wrong this awards season, so we’re wondering how she’ll push the boundaries even further come the BAFTA’s. Alicia Vikander always looks stunningly flawless as she graces the red carpet (makeup radar is on!) and of course, we’re eager to see Eddie Redmayne, perhaps in one of his signature tailored-to-perfection suits.
The Surprises

The lack of nominations for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was something that shocked many. Due to it’s large British presence, and breakout star John Boyega, we were surprised as well to see that a film with so much hype did not get as much BAFTA’s love.
Adam McKay‘s first “dark financial satire” after his high comedic success with SNL, Anchorman, and Step Brothers was a huge hit with The Big Short. The way he crafted a story, and a humorous one at that, around such a confusing and mildly depressing subject while still leaving viewers laughing but also thinking is the ultimate success. Hopefully the British Academy feels his risk paid off as well!
The Newcomers

The BAFTA 2016 Rising Star award gives a little recognition to up-and-coming artists in the film industry. So keeping a close eye on the newcomers a no-brainer. They are the future of film, with as much importance as the classic names we all know and love. Here they are…
Brie Larson has been a “newcomer” for quite a while. Starting off with indie films and working her way through both dramas and comedies, Brie has finally had her shining moment as Joy Newsome or “Ma” in Room.
Aaron Egerton‘s breakout role in Kingsman: The Secret Service has earned him kudos, and we’re impressed that he has managed to not fade into the background amongst household names like Michael Caine, Colin Firth, and Samuel L Jackson. Bravo!
Dakota Johnson‘s highly talked-about role as Anastasia Steele in 50 Shades of Grey, got this actress right out into the spotlight. She shows her range in Whitey Bulger’s biopic Black Mass and humorous side in How To Be Single as she holds her own along side comedy giants Leslie Mann and Rebel Wilson.
British actress Bel Powley has been praised for her breakthrough role in The Diary Of A Teenage Girl, with her fearless and very funny portrayal of Minnie Goetze in Marielle Heller’s 2015 Sundance smash hit.
John Boyega was flashed into mega-stardom the second he signed on to the newest trio of Star Wars films. His role as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already been so well received that his image has been printed on a postage stamp from the UK’s Royal Mail postal service…
The Frontrunners

Alejandro G Iñárritu is an artistic favorite for his work on The Revenant. His decision to shoot the film using solely natural light cost the studios but paid out big time this awards season. His innovative tactics, intricate character work and charismatic acceptance speeches will make a BAFTA win all the more enjoyable for everyone in attendance.
Kate Winslet has been so well received for her supporting role in Steve Jobs. Having already won the Golden Globe, as well as being back on her own English ground, it’s no wonder why we’ve pegged her as a frontrunner this awards show.
This has truly been a breakout year for Brie Larson. Nominated for Lead Actress for her role in Room as Joy Newsome or “Ma” where she creates an entire world for her son while trapped in one small room. Brie has finally stepped out from her supporting roles in films such as Trainwreck and 21 Jump Street an proved she really can make it a serious actress.

Stephen Fry has returned to the stage as BAFTA’s host for his 11th run. His sharp wit yet easy charm makes award show hosting look easy. Maybe one of theses days he’ll pass on his secrets onto those American award show host that keep running for the hills.
This year at the BAFTA’s Leo and Kate are both making a comeback, both being nominated for major awards for their roles in The Revenant and Steve Jobs. There may not have been room for both of them on that door but surely they’ll be enough room for them at the same BAFTA table?
Something quite moving is due to occur at this years BAFTA’s as well. A tribute to late Alan Rickman will be given during the ceremony that’s sure to bring up many emotions with the crowd. Another exciting sight to look forward to begins during the red carpet show. The adorable Eddie Redmayne taking on the red carpet with his now pregnant wife Hannah, so baby bump watch begins this Sunday at the BAFTA’s.
The Food

I bet you haven’t thought about the food that’s being served up during the evening? Well we have an interesting fact for you. Organisers of the BAFTA’s have created an animal-free menu sure to delight vegan A-listers such as Jessica Chastain , Alan Cumming, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Joaquin Phoenix and Natalie Portman.
Anton Manganaro, is the head chef of the BAFTA’s canapés. The vegan, plant-based menu will feature peppers roasted over English Beachwood, leek and wild mushrooms, pickled heritage carrots with poppy seed dressing and beetroot gel, and black and white quinoa with radish, lemon and avocado – and that’s just the beginning. Celebs will also be offered an aubergine tian with peppers, chestnut mushrooms, herb crust, tomato salsa, leaf spinach and rosemary potatoes.
Hey, maybe now we’ve told you, you might spot some food action going on as well as all the sparkling celebs and movies…
