We’ve just had a fun night out at the Soho Theatre watching a young comic actor by the name of Kieran Hodgson. Never heard of him? Neither had we until we caught his show a couple of years ago at the Edinburgh Fringe and the name stuck because he was funny. Very funny. This week he is, as we say, to be caught at the Soho Theatre performing his latest show ‘Lance’. It may be too late to get tickets for now but he is back in November so you can book your seats for then; if you like ironic multi-character based comedy that’s a delight to watch, then this is one for you.
In ‘Lance’ Kieran tells the tale of a lad who hero-worships Lance Armstrong while working his way through the pitfalls and the people littering his teenage years and into his days at university. He plays all the characters himself – from the sad Scout Master who has been forbidden from seeing his own children due to an acrimonious divorce, to his mates, the cool one and the nerdy one. The story that unfolds is one of disappointment and missed opportunities, successes and ultimate failures all given life through the eyes of a boy growing up in and eventually leaving, Yorshire’s Holme Valley.
Kieran Hodgson holds the stage for a full hour of story-telling. In the spirit of cycling we say ‘Just Do It’.
