Being across the pond can sometimes make me feel disconnected from my home country: America. While I enjoy embracing all parts of British life and culture, this July I’m ready to get back in touch with my roots. If you’re one of the nearly 64,000 Americans settled in London, or you just fancy a celebration this 4th July, indulge in one of the traditional food or drink options scattered throughout the city flying the star-spangled banner. Or, you can read about how I would normally be celebrating this day back home in Texas.
The American Bar

Known to serve some of the best cocktails in the city, the swanky bar at the Savoy has been around for around 125 years. The feel of the place is retro and glamorous with its decor and jazz music, and the drinks are all traditionally American. While known to be pricey, the experience at The American Bar is said to be worth it.
The Diner

If you’ve walked pretty much anywhere around the city, you’ve probably seen The Diner. With locations everywhere from Camden to Soho to Shoreditch, the electric restaurant serves up a massive breakfast and lunch menu. The burgers and hot dogs are massive and loaded with a wide range of toppings. This 4th July, they’re even doing a special Independence Day menu, decorating for the occasion and playing strictly American tunes. Check out the one-day-only cuisine here.
The Blues Kitchen

If you proudly rep the Lone Star state, The Blue’s Kitchen in Camden, Shoreditch and Brixton should be your holiday destination. You can wash down a heavy Southern BBQ meal with a bourbon, then dance the night away to one of the blues artists playing live every night. The decor mimics the soul of Nashville, so you’ll feel like you’re back home in no time.
Red Dog Saloon

Kansas City in the heart of the midwest in Missouri is known across the U.S. to have some of the best barbecue. With smokers imported from America to create that traditional smoky flavour, the Red Dog Saloon mimics the taste of KC. This 4th July, at the Hoxton location, celebrate in style with bottomless cocktails and Coney Island cocktails to the tune of live blues music.
Frankie’s Sports Bar & Diner

If you’re looking to catch an NFL, baseball or basketball game, check out Frankie’s Sports Bar & Diner. The restaurants have 12 big screens, all showing American sports channels. While you’re watching, you can munch on traditional bar snacks like chicken wings or potato skins.
