Chanel Couture Spring 2013

At Chanel Couture yesterday, the look, as created by Peter Philips the brand’s creative director of make up, was a lesson in gorgeously dark, gothic beauty. An extreme but pretty update on a classic smoky eye, models – including current catwalk favourite, Cara Delevingne – sported immaculately placed tulle appliques over a glossy, graphic carbon eye, painted on with Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in Black Stream and multiple coats of volumising mascara. The fragile-yet-fierce look perfectly offset the feathered hair-pieces created in the same fabric by Sam McKnightt that casually cascaded over a single eye. Skin was kept velvety and flawless with a hint of peach blush and a soft, moisture-rich rosebud mouth.

“We created the eye applications specially for this show. The makeup is almost an extension of the head accessories.” Philips told Style.com, “In close up, you feel the fragility of the textures and materials, and from a distance, the look feels much darker,”
