Sales of Chia Pods went meteoric last week after Made In Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh tweeted that they were one of her favourite lunchtime snacks. She has nearly 800,000 followers, so no doubt branches of Tesco were bombarded.
Well done Tesco for stocking these nutritious snacks. They are made from coconut milk and fruit. Think a yoghurt without dairy. Think of Bircher muesli without a mountain of sugar. Think being filled up by a tiny pot for £2.59.
I first discovered a version of a Chia Pod in New York. I found them to be extremely filling. So for a day on the go they are perfect because you don’t get hungry.
Chia Pods are a mixture of chia seeds, coconut milk, and come in four flavours – banana, mango, blueberry, and vanilla bean extract.
Each pod provides 100 per cent of your daily requirement of Omega-3 and 25 per cent of fibre. They are quick and easy. They are a filling breakfast and a good pre or post workout snack, especially good for those of us who are trying to cut sugar.
The actual chia seeds themselves are the latest super food. The Chia Co can track and trace every chia seed back to their farms in Australia. John Foss is the founder of The Chia Co. A fourth generation Australian farmer he discovered the benefits of chia while researching natural solutions to modern diet related illnesses such as obesity, diabetes and high cholesterol.
The idea that one of these pots replaces a sugary snack is well thought out. It is easy, portable, available in Tesco and costs £2.59 per pod. Reach for it instead of the Champagne Magnum.
