The global initiative for female empowerment founded by Gucci and spearheaded by the likes of Salma Hayek, Beyonce and Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini, Chime For Change, has today announced a one-off summer event.
The Chime For Change Concert will take over London on June 1st at Twickenham Stadium. Headlined by co-founder Beyonce, with performances by Florence + The Machine, Rita Ora, John Legend, Timbaland, Iggy Azalea, Ellie Goulding and Haim, the sure-to-be-sell-out event aims to inspire change and raise funds for the charity which works to “bring the issues of Education, Health and Justice for girls and women to the world stage.”
Beyonce explained, “Our goal is to call for change for girls and women in the loudest voice possible.” Whilst, Frida Giannini went on to say, “We have reached a significant moment in the history of girls’ and women’s empowerment and now is the time for change. On 1 June at Twickenham Stadium, I hope that The Sound of Change Live will help the voices calling for change to become so loud that they cannot be ignored.”
During the concert, ten short films highlighting the plight of women around the world will be screened, each focussing on specific issues for girls and women.
‘There are no innocent bystanders in the information age,’ said Salma. ‘Technology connects us as never before. But that means we also have the opportunity, and the responsibility, to do something about it. We can be defined not just by what we know, but by what we do, and that is the vision behind Chime For Change.’
Chime For Change Concert tickets will go on sale from 9am Wednesday 27 March, at www.chimeforchange.org. The concert will also be televised worldwide.
