We know it’s officially spring when Easter decorations line the shop windows and eggs pop up on the shelves, though this year we were eating Easter eggs in January but hey-ho. One of our favorite telltale Spring signs, is the unveiling of Claridge’s iconic Easter Egg.
This year’s egg uses the hotel’s own Art-Deco checkerboard lobby as inspiration, that has been regarded by Royalty, dignitaries, and celebrities alike. The limited-edition egg is decked out in a black and white geometric pattern and in our opinion, it’s (almost) too pretty to eat.
Head Pastry Chef, Kimberly Lin, created 100 of these eggs using the finest Valrhona dark, milk and white chocolate. Each egg is filled with a selection of home-made chocolate quail eggs and packaged in a beautiful mint-coloured box. A bespoke black and white Art deco foil and and a black satin bow tie up the look.
The unveiling of Claridge’s annual Easter egg is always something we look forward to, as not only are they beautiful to look at, they’re also artfully created. Lin and her pastry chefs make the two halves of the eggs with the finest cacaos, then fill them with the homemade chocolate quail eggs, then of course wrapped up beautifully, this year in the black and white foil, reminiscent of the hotel’s century-old lobby.
Believe it or not, one tonne of chocolate is consumed each year at Claridge’s. I know I definitely do my part in that! Claridge’s Easter Eggs are £50 each, and can be bought by calling +44 (0)20 7409 6232.
