One of the best things about Oscar week is that the top hair people, stylists and facialists from all over the world appear miraculously to help with that red carpet magic. This year Debbie Thomas came with her cutting edge techniques, state of the art technology, magic potions and healing hands to give red carpet ready facials. I had mine and so did a friend and we instantly looked fresher, younger, glowier. The D Thomas clinic in London in Harvey Nichols is fast gaining a reputation to be THE place to go and Debbie is THE woman. So much so that her treatments were being offered in the Oscars goody bags. Apparently if you are Oscar nominated and don’t win you get a $50,000 gift bag (about £30,000). They really make it worthwhile losing! In the goody bag there are some amazing experiences and products. Luxury holidays, sound systems and elite vouchers and Debbie’s is one of these. She’s looking forward to seeing how many Oscar nominees will be lining her London clinic where she has a fantastic array of lasers for skin plumping, tightening, peeling, illuminating, whatever you need. Lasers also treat veins, acne, rosacea, eczema.
My red carpet facial was laser free but still in the high tech stratosphere. A gadget called Silk’n Titan which is all about light therapy rose over the face after a layer of hyaluronic gel has been applied. The Titan helps with wrinkle reduction, skin tightening and lifting. Its red LED light, its IR heat energy and Bi Polar RF energy combines to create spectacular results.
Then you get this crazy mask. Yes, crazy. It’s plastic in the form of a face and inside it’s lined with space age ready red lights. When you’re under it you can’t believe how red it is. It goes on for about 5 minutes. When it comes off you can’t believe how black it is. Often I don’t like to know the science because I believe in the mysticism of Debbie. These things combined had a dramatic lifting effect. She applied a little Oxygenetix foundation, which is a gorgeous coverage that lets the skin breathe and we were Soho House ready.
Soho House the day after the Oscars. We knew there would be some survivors. Those included Madonna holding court and a timid looking Paul McCartney asking for his table and giving his name like everyone didn’t know who he was. I don’t know how I would have felt about facing Madonna without one of Debbie’s treatments. I felt that I had the best skin in the room.
