Launching exclusively at Harvey Nichols this October – DITCH is the collaboration between leading perfumer Azzi Glasser, and Swedish film director, writer and photographer Jonas Åkerlund..
The Ditch eau de parfum and candle will form part of the 11 previously unreleased fragrances from Azzi’s back catalogue; The Perfumer’s Story, and part of the Harvey Nichols ‘Art of Scent’ exploration into scent. This is the first time that the award-winning perfumer will have made any of her very own special scents available at retail.
The story behind Ditch comes from when Azzi was first introduced to Jonas and he told her that he didn’t like perfume or fragrances, naturally a challenge I would think knowing Azzi! So a conversation about smell and scents began and Jonas admitted he did love certain smells, but nothing he had found to actually wear on his skin. Then he revealed he does love the smell of a ditch, yes a ditch, so that was what Azzi went off into her special lab in her head to create for him. He loved it and it really does just smell of an earthy ditch, I get it and would love to smell it on him.
The unique scent of Ditch has been composed with a fresh top accord of a watery accent; with hints of green grass, and Calone to give it the ozonic and urban atmosphere. The longevity of this fragrance is created using notes of Woods blended with Patchouli, Vetivert and Oud, to give a real earthy, dirty base. Frankincense and Myrrh is buried in the heart of the scent.
Commenting on Ditch, Glasser said; “Jonas Åkerlund is a walking inspiration. Being such a big fan of his incredible work and unique creative direction I was thrilled when he wanted to collaborate with me on composing a fragrance together. Jonas and I spent many hours discussing his vision of the ‘Ditch’ and as he talked, I was silently formulating in my head and through my nose the different ingredients that would be mixed together to make the various accords to then create the end story of the ‘Ditch’.“
Åkerlund adds: “Ditch is becoming part of my life. I identify with it and it’s fun to see how people react to the smell. All this is out of my comfort zone but I’m having a lot of fun with it”
