Halloween is coming up, and with it— the hardest question of the year: what to be for Halloween. You want to be sexy, but not too sexy; funny, but not too big a joke and something that feels new and appropriate for 2016. To help you think beyond the animal ears, we’ve put together a list of Halloween costume ideas you can make at home.
Snapchat Filter
It’s no surprise that Snapchat is the 6th most popular free application, according to Apple. If you can’t eat a meal without snapping it to your story, why not channel your passion for Snapchat into your costume? Last year, everyone was obsessed with the rainbow filter, this year’s favorites include the flower crown, butterfly, and deer. Whichever your choice, all are fairly simple and easily recognizable. My favorite is the golden butterfly filter, because who doesn’t want to be gold and glowy? Get the look with this tutorial from My Pale Skin. Complete the outfit with a flowy shift dress in ivory or pale gold and coordinating heels.
Shoes, £29 from Topshop; Maxi dress, £11.99 from H&M; Shift dress, £35 from ASOS
Unicorn
2016 has sparked an (even bigger) unicorn trend, from cakes, to makeup tutorials, it seems like everyone is jumping on the unicorn train. Grab some shimmery makeup and create your own look. There are plenty of hair and makeup tutorials out there, (this one from Shaanxo is one of my favourites). If there was ever an excuse to wear a rainbow tutu, this is it. Pair with a white crop-top and some shimmering shoes for a magical look.
Tutu, £17.89 from Amazon; Crop top, £3.99 from H&M; Shoes, £28 from ASOS
Villains
Since the release of Warner Bros’ film, Suicide Squad, everyone has been obsessed with Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn. Everyone and their mother has been a superhero for Halloween, so this year, why not cross over to the dark side and be a villain? Harley Quinn and Catwoman are obvious choices, but I’m loving this Poison Ivy makeup look by mayratouchofglam. Finish the look with a sultry green dress and some thigh-high boots.
Dress, £18 from Boohoo; Boots, £50 from Misguided
