When I think of a successful nineties throwback style, I think of Rihanna at the 2016 Brit Awards draped in purple metalics – from her dress, to makeup, to nails. It was a lot of cool purple tones, but somehow, not too much. She did this very well.
Her nails especially stood out to me. I recently noticed that in Essie’s nineties inspired Fall 2017 collection, one of the colours matches them perfectly.
The colour I’m talking about is called Girlie Grunge (£7.99). It’s a soft, silvery metallic with a light purple shine. To get the colour to match Rihanna’s nails, it’s probably best to layer this, starting with a lighter colour. Their Mixtaupe (£7.99) colour is a warm ivory with a dash of pink. Use this as a base before applying Girlie Grunge and voila, you have a cool nineties inspired nail colour.
