Cats have been in the limelight for decades. Famous authors Ernest Hemingway and Mark Twain, Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Bill Clinton, even heartthrob James Dean and the inimitable Grace Kelly have all been painted and photographed with their cats and quoted on their love of cats.
Now, we can’t help but notice that it seems to be a growing trend among celebs to post nauseatingly adorable pictures of their furry feline friends on Twitter. As fellow cat lovers, we can’t help but be delighted.
She has two personal maids in attendance day and night, a chauffeur and private jet, has graced the cover of Harper’s Bazaar and the prestigious V Magazine alongside French model Laetitia Casta, she has even inspired a Chanel collection of Chanel. With more than 12,000 Twitter followers, we can only be talking about Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved and every-so-slightly spoiled cat, Choupette.
Did we mention that Choupette was actually stolen? Karl Lagerfeld says, “[Model] Baptiste [Giaconi] gave her to me for Christmas to watch for two weeks when he was away but then I refused to give her back. I thought she was too cute. She is like a kept woman. She has a strong personality. She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food. She doesn’t touch my food. She doesn’t want to eat on the floor. She sleeps under a pillow and she even knows how to use an iPad.” Oh to be Karl’s cat!
Not quite as famous as Choupette but twice as fluffy, is Kim Kardashian‘s new kitten Mercy, picture of whom have been blowing up Twitter. The adorable fuzzball was a gift from boyfriend Kanye West and has been spotted on numerous occasions making public appearances in the arms of her adoring owner. Mercy, whose plush fur, pointed ears, and large blue eyes have been humorously compared to that of a Furby, is one seriously cute cat, but will Mercy rival Princess Choupette’s fame? It seems possible, but this little kitten’s still got a long way to go.
Another up and coming celebrity kitty cat, is Katy Perry‘s cat, amazingly named, Kitty Purry. If the pun’s not enough to bring a smirk to your face, this picture of Kitty cuddling with a bottle of Purr is sure to register on the cute-o-meter. Kitty Purry is not nearly as spoiled as Choupette, but she’s no ordinary cat either. Kitty was Katy’s inspiration for the fragrance Purr, she made a cameo appearance in the “I Kissed A Girl” music video and is always hanging around backstage during Meet and Greets, eager to be involved in any of Katy’s fan photos.
Kitty joined Katy, in spirit, during Katy’s her Hello Katy Tour, by way of a large inflatable stage-decoration of Kitty Purry’s head. In turn, on the California Dreams Tour, Kitty Purry was represented by a purple cat suit with a bejeweled heart and a red hair bow. But the most recent Kitty Purry news, that she has been seeing a shrink after Katy’s split from Russell Brand, to help her readjust, has tipped us over the edge! Spoiled indeed.
