When it comes to hairbrushes there are so many to choose from. Where do you start? Do you want bristles, prongs, comb teeth, do you want a detangler, a paddle, or a rodial? It can get a bit too much. So we’ve come to rescue with our picks of the best brushes going. Let’s get started…
The Wet Brush (£12.99) is the US’ number one selling hairbrush. The flexible bristles work to detangle wet or dry hair without breaking or damaging strands, making for thicker, healthier hair in the future. Static? Nope. This beauty smooths as it goes. And we love this special edition safari print.
The Tangle Teezer Blow Styling Hairbrush (£20.00 for the full paddle, £18.00 for the half paddle) is the latest innovation from the UK’s best loved detangling brush. The teeth are designed, yes to detangle, but also to grip the hair as it is blow dried, so that the hot air is diffused more evenly around the strands, so that a smoother blow dry can be achieved in less time. Less time styling with hit equals less damage, so that’s quite alright by us! And for those of you who simply HAVE to have a brush with a handle, this might be a Tangle Teezer style you can get on board with.
If you’re a serious blow dry girl, your hair routine might be revolutionised by the John Frieda Volume Boost 42mm Hot Brush (£20.99). The ceramic barrel smooths, straightens and volumises as it goes. It’s a heat styler that gives that just-blow-dried look and then some. It’s a game changer.
Every girl needs the Kent Back-Combing Brush (£10.50) in her life. Whether you’re into 60s style bouffants or the teeniest bit of a volume boost, this compact brush is everything you could want. Tease an under layer of hair at the crown of your head into a little bit of a backcomb, brush the top layer of hair smoothly over it, tousle a bit with your hands and you have instant Bardot-esque glamour. Set aside a bit of time before your next hair wash to play. That way, a good dose of conditioner will rectify any tangles if you get a little too eager in your practice session.
Philip B Stroke of Genius Round Brush (£65.00) is a classy piece of craftsmanship. Its ergonomically shaped mahogany (yes mahogany) handle is designed to fit a hand perfectly, and the first-cut boar bristles minimise drying time. But our favourite thing about this brush? It doubles up as a roller. Once you’ve finished your at-home blow dry, wrap your last section of hair (at the middle of your forehead) back on itself as you would a roller. Leave to cool until you have to head out of the door, and you’re blow-dry will have its bouncy, shiny finish.
