Earlier this year, J.K. Rowling invited us ALL back into the wonderful world of wizards in new film, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and it’s finally here!
As a big Harry Potter fan myself, I could not wait to see the much awaited prequel. The film opened with the iconic Harry Potter theme tune, sending a wave of shivers through the cinema, followed by an explosion of cheer – we knew we were in for a treat.
Set in New York, exactly 70 years before Harry Potter reads the adventures of Newt Scamander, J.K. Rowling introduces our hero, Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), an English wizard who arrives on an Atlantic liner with a magical suitcase of zoological creatures.
Mesmerised by the City of New York, Scamander loses focus of his treasured suitcase and it accidentally gets swapped with a baker’s sample case of pastries. But, this is terrible news, not just because the baker is a “no-maj”, the American slang for “muggle”, which Harry Potter fans will know is the term used for those born without wizardry in their blood, but also because he has no idea how to handle the creatures inside the case.
Of course, the creatures escape and Scamander sets on a quest to capture them all. Soon however, he realises that there is a greater danger lurking in the dark corners of a city; a danger far beyond the beasts he keeps and one he has come across before.
Will they truly tame the evil set lose on the streets of New York? Spoiler alert – maybe not entirely and we think there is a good chance there will be a Fantastic Beasts 2.
