Because as the editor of U.S Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, Vreeland is without doubt, one of the 20th century’s most influential women – an enduring icon whose influence changed the face of fashion, beauty, art, publishing and culture.
Produced and directed by Vreeland’s grandsons’ wife Lisa, The Eye Has To Travel, details the admirable career of Vreeland herself and how she came to be the iconic figure we know her to be today. Both an intimiate portrait and a celebration the story of Vreeland illustrates the evolution of women into roles of power and prominence throughout the 20th century, and travels through some of the century’s greatest historical and cultural eras, including Paris’ Belle Epoque, New York in the roaring twenties, and London in the swinging sixties. It also spans such historical events as the great wars, the flights of Lindbergh, the romance of Wallis and Windsor, the Kennedy inauguration, and the freewheeling spirit of the 1960’s youthquake, and the advent of countless fashion revolutions from the bikini to the blue jean.
Featuring a whole host of famous fashion faces including Ali McGraw, Anjelica Huston, Anna Sui, Manolo Blahnik, Lauren Hutton, Diana von Furstenberg, Joel Schumacher, David Bailey and Calvin Klein, the film is incredibly funny, touching and sartorially epic.
