We have to hand it to them. The high street eateries have seriously got it together in terms of healthy breakfast eats. The options just keep coming. First they hooked on to our sudden need for green juices, then for dairy-free options, and now there’s a five grain porridge on the shelves! But is it all as good for us as we think? We’ve delved into the small-print of some of the newest additions to clue you in…
Pret seem to be leading the way in this mini breakfast revolution! But if you were thinking about juicing your way to a bikini body with these dinky little options, keep an eye on the sugar count! We love the taste, but we shouldn’t make them a daily necessity. If you’re a bit taken aback by the fat content of the coconut yoghurt, just remember we need good fats in our daily food intake, don’t let it deter you, and look how low the sugar content is! And yes the 5 Grain Porridge is now one of our favourites.

Eat is always a great little take out option. We do love their RAW Pure Green juice, but don’t categorise it along those veg-heavy cold pressed varieties. This one has a good dose of apple juice, so there’ll be a hefty sugar content. And as much as their Matcha Chiller is a nice treat on a hot summer’s day, it’s not as healthy as whizzing up one yourself with almond milk and ice, so keep that in mind. The calorie content speaks for itself. Not that that will stop us from treating ourselves this year, but it won’t be our everyday pick-me-up drink.

RAW Pure Green (Spinach, Kiwi, Cucumber, Apple, Ginger snd Spirulina) *NO NUTRITIONAL FACTS UP YET*
Ah Leon. Now here’s a green shake you can sip happily on knowing it’s doing you some good. Being a smoothie it also means it contains a lot of the the fresh roughage that juicing does away with, and ups your fibre intake. It has a thumbs up from us! Their milk-free shakes are a delight too, though a little more costly in the sugar stakes. As is their Power Smoothie, though it is supposed to give you a good energy dose.

Pure does an amazing line in freshly prepared produce, and their juices are no exception. When you see the whole pieces of fruit being juiced right in front of you, you know it’s going to be good. Their Hail the Kale juice is our new favourite, and yes we know there’s a lot of sugar in it, but there’s something to be said for seeing it being prepared before your eyes and knowing that no other chemical nasties make it in there. We love their Seasonal Fruit Bircher but the sugar content is slightly high. Great for a treat, or even a healthy pudding option every now and then, but maybe choose porridge and a piece of fruit for your more regular option.

Itsu have really been ticking the boxes recently. It might already be a favourite lunch spot but have you considered them as a breakfast option before? We think you should. Check out their new Beauty Smoothies that get whizzed up in front of your eyes! They look incredible, but we do wish that a) they’d let us know the sugar content, and b) they’d lessen the coriander dose in the green smoothie. Not everyone’s a fan! Their green Purify Juice made in collaboration with health food expert Calgary Avansino is a beauty. It’s hands down the most veg-packed pre-made option out there.
