We long for summer all year round; and the slightest appearance of sunlight and that’s it, everyone in Britain is out with their shorts on, t-shirts, coats ditched, sunglasses on; the whole shabang. It’s great. But, sometimes it comes at a price and the state of our feet can be a little bit of a shock. Well they’ve been hiding away for so long right? It’s time to book a pedi! But those lovely summer shoes you’ve invested in can also be a main cause of our feet getting dry, cracked and sore. Which isn’t a good look in your new sandals is it? The BATD office isn’t a stranger to these problems – so we put some products to the test, and here’s our top picks for keeping your feet in tip-top condition and sandal ready…
Bliss Foot Patrol, £18.50
Vesi:
“We all love this time of year! You can forget about closed shoes and slip on your favourite pair of sandals. Although this brings you a sense of freedom there is no escaping from dry and cracked heels. Foot Patrol by Bliss is a refreshing foot cream that exfoliates while hydrating for incredibly silky soles and it has been my remedy for cracked heels this summer. I love the aloe leaf and peppermint smell, however I wouldn’t recommend putting it on before bed as the smell can be overpowering, and if you’re anything like me you do not like strong fragrances when you’re going to sleep. It has done wonders for my soles and I’m a keen believer that the best recommended method for application on the back of the bottle truly is the best way to use 😉 Give it a read to find out.. ”
Soap & Glory Heel Genius, £5.50
Debbie:
“Pounding the pavements in central London, especially in the Summer, takes it’s toll on my feet. I love wearing flat sandals but my heels take a hammering and I am constantly buffing away hard skin. Heel Genius from Soap & Glory is made just for people with heels like mine and I found that within a few days of using it my skin was less cracked looking and smoother. It is also refreshing on tired feet as it’s a cool blue gel and it smells fresh too. They recommend putting it on clean feet and then wearing socks overnight – even in the depths of winter I can’t wear socks in bed but if you put it on an hour or so before going into bed it has time to soak in and won’t stain the bedsheets. It seems to work just as well too! Ingredients include macadamia oil, menthol, bilberry, orange and lemon – hence the lovely fruity fresh smell”
Aveda Foot Relief, £19.50
Hannah:
“Treat your hard-working feet to Aveda. Rubbing in this rich and luxurious creme is delightful. The smell is absolutely divine, lovely and pepperminty – to be honest that alone sold me on this one! But it really does give your feet a charge of moisture from it’s all natural active herbs and exfoliating fruit acids. It also contains plant-derived oils including jojoba and castor. Slather this on after a long day in your uncomfortable shoes, and your feet feel instantly refreshed. Do this just before bed to cool them down if your bed gets a bit hot and stuffy! A lot goes a long way, and sinks in fast too, and with regular use you’ll for sure bare silky smooth, and sandal-ready soles.”
Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Cream, £12.99
Krista:
“The word cream is quite deceiving as it’s quite a thick oily gel – which is great if your feet need serious attention and reviving. For best results soak your feet a bit first, give them a little scrub, and rub this between your hands to emulsify this a bit, as it is quite thick! Put a nice dollop in your palms, rub them together and then go heels first and massage round the balls of your feet and all around the cuticles of your toes, concentrating on any really dry areas; as this is super nourishing. Give your feet a little massage to rub it in, and I would recommend popping a pair of cotton socks on afterwards, because your feet feel quite greasy till it all dissolves in. But I absolutely loved it – it made my feet feel super soft, and that soft feeling lasted for 24 hours. Great for summer, if you wear flip flops a lot. ”
Burt’s Bees Peppermint Foot Lotion, £12.99
Krista:
“This is more of a traditional cream, and it’s very moisturising. The peppermint oil and menthol is really nice and tingly, and wakes your feet up. It also contains witch hazel, which deodorizes and is really soothing. The peppermint foot lotion is highly recommended for hot feet and legs. I extended this to my calves and massaged in and it felt really nice on a hot day. It leaves your feet super soft and absorbs quicker than the coconut cream; I would say this is more of an everyday cream – whereas the coconut is more of an extended treatment for your feet.”
Profoot 360 Foot File, £4.99 (Available from Boots)
The Profoot 360 Foot File gently removes calluses or hard skin fast, easily and effectively. It is ergonomically shaped to fit comfortably in the hand and it’s gel interior makes it comfortable on your tootsies, and easy to use! Krista came across this product and liked it’s unique shape and how easy it was to use. Give it a go!
