Finding a good hairdresser always feels like a life quest, often as soon as you find someone who knows exactly what a healthy trim looks like they move to Brighton to open their own salon. Yes that is great for all of you on the coast, but not for me, now I think I have found someone who not only gave me a great haircut but possibly the best blow dry I have had and I am super fussy! I am also pretty confident he might stay in London, as he owns the salon, Gennaro Dell’Aquila really understands hair and is still so passionate about it after a long successful career that started when he was 16 in Naples.
I went to his salon in Notting Hill after my hair had enjoyed a summer of sunshine and swimming, it was due for a good trim and the last two summers I went somewhere for an inch and half off I ended up looking like Anthea Turner, a good 4 inches was chopped off and I had to leave really depressed. I could tell as soon as I walked in to the GA Salon they understood glitz and glamour and I felt so confident I wouldn’t leave looking like I belonged on daytime TV. I was 100% correct, firstly I just had to look at Gennaro’s hair, he has the most amazing, healthy, bouncy looking quiff I’ve ever seen. My hair was safe, he gave me a consultation prior to my hair wash and suggested the exact amount I wanted off, I was lead to the small area next to the lovely coffee and juice bar for a wash.
Whilst he was cutting my hair he also told me about his colour process that he has been working on for years that was a natural and organic way to colour hair that would even work on grey hair. His 100% organic blends are made from plants, using ingredients like chamomile, turmeric and hibiscus, all the blends are made as a bespoke service for each client. It means that coloured hair would be in better condition without the usual chemical process that is more widely used and strips away the natural oils and makes hair break more easily.
Back to me and my fabulous haircut and as for the blow dry, he has a very unique technique to create volume and height in the hair, I seriously did not want my style to end. I had my hair cut on Friday and was using dry shampoo on it by Tues to keep it going. I would recommend going to the salon just for a blow dry if this is the way he is teaching his team how to blow dry and style hair.
I loved my hair cut and the friendly atmosphere in the salon and would return here as well as tell friends to go over so many of the West End salons you might have heard of more. My experience at GA Salon was better than many more ‘famous’ named salons, Gennaro knows hair and loves to make people feel good about theirs.
