Set in the 1930s USA Depression-era, the wardrobe and makeup in the film Serena, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper was a vision. There are a variety of looks throughout the film; you get to see a very well put together Lawrence with effortless beauty and a good dose of sass.
And THAT hair. A mass of thick blonde icy waves. The official term for the style is marcel waves and they’re typically created by using several pins, clips and a setting lotion but you can get them with a great heat styling tool and a bit of patience. Try press curling with straighteners – twist a section of hair round your finger, hold in a flat spiral and clap between your straighteners for a few moments. Hold in your hand ’til cool then let the hair section uncurl, keeping its set look. Take a brush lightly through the waves, not undoing them completely, then spray a strong hold hairspray to your hands and pat lightly onto hair. Et voila!
Her every-day fresh-faced make up look is occasionally jazzed up with a strong red lip and added liner on the eyes. Her character is strong, determined yet down to earth. It’s a great balance.
