Strobing is majorly taking pride place in recent makeup trends; so rather than sinking in your contours with dark colours, it’s now all about defining and bringing out your best bits with a gorgeous glow.
I am always on a bit of a highlight mission, and in recent months I have been so impressed at some dazzling powder highlights that have come my way – and not the glittery kind, I mean the dreamy glowy type. From high street to high-end, here are some of our highlighter favourites here at the BATD headquarters:
#1: Illamasqua Beyond Powders
This one currently sits at number one of my highlighter list – Illamasqua’s smoking hot new Beyond Powders, £32. They come in two shades, the first OMG is a champagne pop of gold and pinky tones, and the second Epic, is a warm, golden hue of bronze beautifulness. The texture is firmer than you’d expect; which I like, so you feel like the thin veil is blending in to give off the perfect pop, and you can layer this to build up too, both dry or wet – for more impact.
MUR
Coming in at just £4 – it is so impressive how right MUR have got this highlighter. The Pro Illuminate powder is a soft powder which you can build up – and it is the perfect golden silvery tone.
DELILAH
Although this highlight looks strong when swatched on my fingertips – when it is brushed over the skin it is super sheer and such a good option if you’re looking for a subtle golden glow. It is a warm gold, not a yellow gold – which the pinky tones soften up to make this really lovely colour.
HOURGLASS
Here, I have swatched the lovely Strobe Lighting Powder in this pinky tone – which is perfect for paler skin tone and gives a little more ‘oomph’ than the Lighting Powder. The gold-toned Diffused Light powder is a great all-over glow as it is super subtle and sheer. Perfect if you want a little healthy glow without it being obvious.

TIPS TO GET YOU ON YOUR WAY TO MAJOR HIGHLIGHTING
Here are some tips to keep in mind so you can totally nail this strobing trend. Because who said you could have too much highlighter?
1. Make sure you use a great brush. Real-hair brushes can work great if you really want to pick up more product and blend it is smoothly. Consider the size of the brush – the bigger you go, the bigger area your highlight will blend out. F.or a more defined glow – use a soft tapered concealer brush size.
2. Spritz on MAC Fix + or Urban Decay’s Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep spray onto your face after for an enhanced glow, or before for more product to ‘stick’ on, giving a more intense highlight. Alternatively spray onto brush and then pink up product and blend.
