Giambattista Valli has designed a five-shade lip collection for MAC.
MAC’s collaboration announcements never fail to get us all kinds of excited, and Giambattista Valli’s upcoming line of lipsticks and matching glosses is no exception. The Italian designer, famous for his gorgeous florals incorporated into his designs, has concocted five new matte shades for his capsule collection that sample a little bit of everything from the lipstick color spectrum, from the lightest of baby pinks, to apricot, to deep plum. Valli spoke excitedly to Vogue about his upcoming collection, explaining, “I’m very well known for dresses, no? And I thought it was very nice, the idea of dressing your lips. For a creative person, collaborating can be frustrating because you feel that you’re limited or stuck within someone else’s ideas, but with MAC it was 100 percent freedom and 100 percent support just to make my idea become a reality, to pull out my flowers and my sense and my emotion and put it into the color.”

“The best thing about makeup is that a lipstick can really change your look. If you never wear color on your lips and then one day you wear red, everyone just goes ‘wow!’” Valli went to great lengths to ensure that the shades were perfect and universally flattering, seeking out the perfect shade of red from a single cherry. Other color inspirations came from patterns and designs included in his past collections, making the line of lipsticks feel even more stylish and exclusive. He says of his ideal client, “I made these for a woman with personality, a woman who lives her life and isn’t afraid to wear color and isn’t afraid to kiss!” Count us in!
Giambattista Valli’s collection for MAC won’t be available until summer 2015, but is available for preorder at MAC stores.
