Rose has to be one of my favourite scents. When I was younger it seemed that every faux makeup set smelled of it, so maybe there’s something nostalgic in my penchant for it. Though my one hangup about it is that I will run a million miles from anything too powdery, and a lot of rose scents fall into that trap.
Imagine my delight then, when I was presented with Givenchy’s new Givenchy Very Irresistible L’Eau En Rose (£47.25), the latest take on its classic Very Irresistible fragrance, first introduced back in 2003.
There’s not a hint of powderiness about it. In fact it’s entirely fresh. It has a freshness that is perfectly described by Givenchy as a ‘shiver of a rose sorbet’, that crystal cut coolness of a field of meadow flowers waving in the wind. Quite simply, it’s gorgeous. I have a daily scent that nothing can really tempt me from, but this is the closest to do so that I have come across.
And the scent’s campaign only adds to its allure. A Givenchy muse has an air of pretty sophistication and class about them that is mellowed by their freshness and femininity. Audrey Hepburn was one such muse, and today she is Amanda Seyfried. The brand say of her that ‘she is quite simply very Givenchy’. And we would be inclined to agree.
This scent has more than earned its place on our dressing table, and we hope it will evoke beautiful images of a heady 2014 summer for years to come.
