Global Lust By Chrissy Iley
A make-up artist whom I contacted last minute because I was going to the Oscars the year before last introduced me to Bobbi Brown eye colour. Before that Bobbi Brown had rather passed me by. It seemed too basic.
Once the eye palette was employed I realised it was anything but. The colours were edgy, subtle, clever, well thought out and the staying power was magnificent. I arrived smoky-eyed at Elton John’s party at 4pm and the eyes were still smoking at an after party at 3am. That’s when I became intrigued.
I bought the palette the make-up artist used and when it was discontinued I went into mourning but visited the ever expanding range, became addicted to little pots of eye base that were as dramatic or as subtle as desired. I never go out for an evening without it.
The new collection of eyes and lips is called Pretty Powerful Uber Basics and it is all of those things, pretty and powerful, basic as in can’t live without, uber as in special, day to night, night to day.
There’s a limited edition sparkle eyeshadow which needs to be plucked up before it goes Bobbi Brown often do these limited editions. Once you’ve found the holy grail of the smoky sparkle you don’t want to re-trek. It shimmers but it’s also smooth and the colour is intense and long-lasting.
The lip colour is creamy with a translucent base. It is weirdly comfortable if you can describe a lipstick as comfortable, quite long lasting and moisturising, which is of course almost impossible. Usually colour that lasts dries the lips and lipsticks that moisturise don’t last.
It is immensely wearable like the perfect black dress that takes you from the office to dinner to party, it’s basic but it’s uber.
