Over the last few weeks we’ve spotted various behind-the-scenes shots of Nicole Kidman portraying the uber glamourous Grace Kelly in the latest silver screen biopic, Grace of Monaco. Set to be released next year, the film which follows the life of Grace, the starlet who became a highly-respected royal, has caused upset amongst Grace’s children. Prince Albert of Monaco, Princess Caroline and Princess Stephanie, although having reportedly been sent scripts before filming ensued, have released a statement that their mother’s life ‘has been needlessly needlessly glamorised and historically inaccurate.”
‘We have had absolutely no association with this project which claims to be about the lives of our parents,’ said the siblings via a statement. ‘For us, this film does not constitute a biographical work, but portrays only a part of her life and has been pointlessly glamoured, and contains important historical inaccuracies as well as scenes of pure fiction.’
Kidman has, nevertheless, expressed her excitement at playing Kelly. In an interview with French newspaper ‘Le Figaro’, she said that the film charted Grace Kelly’s “path from cinema to royalty.”
“This is not a biopic or a fictionalised documentary. . but only a small part of her life where she reveals her great humanity as well as her fears and weaknesses.”
