The biggest names in fashion have descended onto the French capital to showcase this fall’s Haute Couture collections. From doll-like makeup to classic dogtooth print – here are our highlights from the fashion shows so far this week:
Stephane Rolland
Indulging in his ‘softer side’ Stephane Rolland displayed his romantic AW16 Haute Couture gowns yesterday. Rolland described his twist on the classic ballgown; “I wanted to show that we can take from the past in a more modern way than the typical Grace Kelly look that we see everywhere now”. Using monochrome colours, the collection consisted of ruffled, duvet-like textures on the skirts, with bold colour blocking.
Alexandre Vauthier
Since Bella Hadid created a buzz around THAT sensational red dress she wore at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Alexandre Vauthier is someone we have our eyes on. The designer presented his Haute Couture collection on Tuesday evening, with Bella Hadid modelling his latest creations alongside Jourdan Dunn. While makeup was soft and minimal, all eyes were on the clothing..
Georgia Armani Privé
This season, Giorgio Armani took houndstooth as his main focus and manipulated it, by enlarging and abstracting the classic print until it became a buoyant graphic. The print was featured throughout the collection, in its varying sizes. Using cool tones with pastel blues against black and white monochrome colours; Armani had a classic and elegant feel.
Alexis Mabille
Alexis Mabille said his fall couture collection was inspired by a Cy Twombly painting – probably from the soft pastel tones used throughout the collection, which from afar, created a feeling of calmness and harmony. Up close though, the gowns had a more chaotic element, with the use of endless ruffles using textured materials including lace.
Sporting centre partings, twiggy style drawn bottom lashes and bold crease liner; the models’s beauty enhanced the fairytale element and a doll-like touch to the collection.
