Beauty and the Dirt were obsessing over these gorgeous Dark Berry Lipstick shades yesterday – so I put a quick demo together on how I like to apply a deeper shade of lippie; and get a sharp and perfect shape each time.

For this look I used the Aveda Nourish-Mint smoothing lip colour in Blackberry with Purple Sage liner (both £15). These are from their new Sublime Spirit A/W collection which features rich ebony, cocoa, plum, wine and moss greens for a real Autumnal-infused colour palette inspired by antique tapestries.
The lipstick is infused with peppermint, which just smells lovely but also feels fresh when you apply it. It also contains fruit and plant waxes with vanilla and ginger aroma for a natural scent and nourishing properties too.

1. I like to start off by popping on a little concealer/foundation. This creates a blank canvas to your lips and when you’re doing the slick lines of lipstick/liner, you have a clean base to contrast and show those sharp edges off against. If you create a slightly matte base it also helps keep any lipstick bleeding at bay.
2. I ALWAYS without fail add a highlight onto my cupid’s bow. A pearl powder eye shadow is perfect, in a neutral shade to highlight and give the illusion of a fuller top lip. It’s a necessity to me now.
3. When applying lipstick/liner on my top lip – I don’t open my mouth or move my lips around; I keep them just relaxed. Because this way, you can see what shape you’re drawing and also keep it as symmetrical as possible. I like to map out my cupid’s bow, slowly, and then go on to my bottom lip. The only time I open or stretch my mouth out is when doing those inner corners to get the pencil right in there, but then I relax my lips again as I carry on.
4. Get your lippy on. As you have lines to follow, stay inside them! Usually I go for my liner again to clean it all up.
5. If you make any mistakes, wipe the particular part with a wipe, into the lipstick. This way you don’t smudge any dark colour onto the skin, it’s harder to get that off. Then grab your pencil and try again.
