HOW TO PULL OFF CHUNKY LASHES

April 14, 2016

By Hannah Powling

Is bigger finally better? We’ve been told for years that chunky lashes are major beauty no-no; but we can’t deny that fact that clumpy mascara has made its turnaround. The beauty industry is revisiting 60’s icons and now, big big big lashes are so on trend right now.

Clumpy Lashes
Clumpy Lashes making their debut at DAKS & Mary Katranzou SS16, and Emanuel Ungaro AW16 shows.

All those years of avoiding clumps has come to an end and having a little larger than life lashes is now a thing – they appeared on countless S/S shows and even creeping into the A/W catwalks with DAKS, Mary Katranzou, Prada, Gucci, Emanuel Ungaro, Vivienne Westwood and more, getting in on the action.

Spidery lashes are here to stay this spring; with MAC’s director of makeup artistry, Terry Barber describing them as a “gorgeous biker-Bordeaux” vibe. And we want in on THAT look.

Want to give it a go?
DO’s: We recommend you go minimal on your look, so all focus goes to your lashes, plus it doesn’t give an ‘over-done’ feel.
DONT’s: Go full-on with the rest of your eye makeup as you may give off the ‘heavy’ look.

We wanted to find the products that will guide you along the road to chunky lashes, as many brands have been formulating their mascaras to do just the opposite. These mascaras have the perfect formula for maximum volume – and have the capability of building up to create whatever amount of thickness you wish for!

MAC In Extreme Dimension 3D Black Lash

With three colours to choose from; Ciaté’s Triple Shot mascara coats your lashes with sleek, thick shiny formula. With a plastic wand to coat from the very base of your lashes all the way up; you’ll be impressed with how this layers up for brilliantly dramatic, thick and long lashes.

Another mascara hot off the press, Charlotte Tilbury’s newest addition to the lash family, which aims for even bigger and larger than life lashes – with her new Legendary Lashes mascara. This is the mascara we would suggest you try if you’re not so ready for full-on chunk but want great volume!
