We are completely in awe of, and slightly disturbed by, Julianne Moore’s most recent incarnation – as Sarah Palin – in upcoming HBO film ‘Game Change’ which follows John McCain’s 2008 presidential election campaign.
The role, which critics have claimed will garner Moore an Emmy, sees her nailing Palin’s Midwest accent and mimicking her mannerisms to uncanny effect, but it is Moore’s physical transformation that has us totally transfixed. Apparently a team of hair and make up artists took around two hours each morning before filming to render Moore totally unrecognisable, but eerily Palin-esque.
Despite having to wear specially-designed contacts to darken her eyes, having her lip and jaw shape reconstructed to closer resemble Palin’s and having to undergo extensive contouring, Moore told People magazine that for her the greatest transformation was the change in skin tone, Moore says. “She’s very tanned and I’ve never been tan in my life. So just changing my skin to that colour took a lot. I don’t tan, I just get freckly, so we had to cover up my freckles, then darken my skin.”
And it seems that we weren’t the only ones to be freaked out by Moore’s strangely similar Sarah Palin resemblance. Julianne’s husband also told People magazine, “We took some pictures with the kids, and it’s like us with Sarah Palin. We weren’t freaking out because we’ve all been on so many sets with her. But it was kind of eerie.”
All we can say is – hail the power of make up!
