Kristen Wiig is featured in the August issue of Elle U.S., and the location of her photo shoot is just as unique as the star herself. Wiig’s photo spread was shot at Grey Gardens, the legendary estate in East Hampton, New York that was home to eccentric socialites Edith and Edie Beale and the subject of a 1975 documentary about their lives. For over 25 years the women, relatives of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, rarely left Grey Gardens, secluding themselves and spending their days dressing in bizarre outfits. Their lives in the dilapidated estate where chronicled in the Grey Gardens documentary, which in turn inspired a 2009 HBO movie of the same name starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange.
Wiig’s dreamy Elle photo shoot marks the first time that the estate has been used for a fashion shoot location, and the first time the estate has been shot since the documentary was filmed. Wiig’s feature article delves into the Bridesmaids star’s recent departure from straight comedy with darker roles, her future directing goals and her pre-Saturday Night Live years. The August issue of Elle is on U.S. newsstands now.
