KRISTEN WIIG’S VERSATILE CAREER

April 5, 2016

Kristen Wiig has made herself a household name with her seven year run on SNL, films like Knocked Up and Despicable Me, as well as her Academy Award nominated film Bridesmaids. However, since this commercial success Wiig has been relatively quiet. Taking a step back from her funny roles, she has explored a variety of avenues that not only demonstrate her versatility, but has paved waves for future female comedians as an example of not being strictly defined to one role.

Here are some things Kristen has been up to since Bridesmaid’s debut:

Wiig also likes to be versatile with her hairstyles, going from long brown locks, to short blonde locks many times.

-She has been busy with independent films such as The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Welcome to Me, and The Skeleton Twins, and Nasty Baby.

– In fact, Wiig has become such a staple in independent films, a rumor spread at this year’s Sundance Film Awards that Wiig was in a fake film entitled “AbracaDeeborah.” The film trended on Twitter, and Sundance had to put a disclaimer out that it did not exist.

-Even though she has taken on more serious roles, Wiig is still able to make fun of the often times melodramatic events that are infamous amongst independent films. She did a comedic bit with Jimmy Kimmel called “Crying in a Sweater” that demonstrated the trope.

– She is tired of the “women in comedy” question, believing that women are just as funny as men, but also agreeing that there are far fewer opportunities for women to demonstrate these talents.

-She danced at the 2015 Grammy awards with Maddie Ziegler during Sia’s song Chandelier. Wiig does not have a notable dance background, leaving many to believe that it was not her.

– Wiig stays out of the media most of the time, describing herself as a very shy person who “doesn’t know what makes people laugh.”

– Despite this, she is about to step back into her blockbuster roots in this summer’s remake of Ghostbusters, along with three other female leads.
