For those who stayed up late enough last night to watch Lady Gaga’s half-time show performance at Superbowl 51, kudos. For the rest of us, it’s already up online, and we are obsessed! Gaga started her performance perched up on the roof of Houston’s NRG stadium. Gaga first sang “America the Beautiful” and Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land,” a song that has become an anthem of sorts for protestors against the proposed immigrations bans and border walls. Many were surprised that the mega pop star didn’t use her platform to address Trump head on, though her choice of opening songs said enough on their own. While Gaga finished “This Land is Your Land,” divided red, white and blue stars merged together in the background, becoming completely intertwined as Gaga swan dived to the stage by harness.
Hillary Clinton was among the list of celebrities who quickly took to Twitter to praise the subtlety of Gaga’s message, where she posted, “I’m one of 100 million #SuperBowl fans that just went #Gaga for the Lady, & her message to all of us.”
I don’t think it was a surprise to anyone that Gaga looked amazing in her two performance outfits. She started in an embellished blue and silver bodysuit and matching boots, her blonde hair blown out. Her only outfit change during the performance was into an equally stunning pair of silver hot pants and a white top. Prior to the show, Gaga stunned in a black Vera Wang high-low ensemble as she greeted fans.
Gaga went on to perform her biggest hits such as “Poker Face,” “Bad Romance,” “Born this Way,” “Just Dance,” and a single off of her newest album “Joanne,” where she took a slower pace and belted “Million Reasons.”
As if we expected anything less, Gaga made a memorable exit after her 12-minute performance, with a drop of the mic, her catching a football, and jumping off the stage, all in less than five seconds. It’s hard to just pick one thing we love the most about Gaga, but it might just have to be her unapologetic uniqueness. You go Gaga!
Other stars in the crowd included Gisele Bundchen, supermodel and wide of Patriot’s player Tom Brady, model and actress Emily Ratajkowski, Mark Wahlberg, model Chrissy Teigen, Usher, Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles, and so many more.
