After the tragic death of David Bowie this year due to cancer, all the musical heavy-hitters are coming together during the Grammy’s to celebrate his life and music. At the center of the show is Lady Gaga, who is performing a medley of Bowie’s hits in tribute to the Brixton star. Within his career, Bowie received 11 Grammy nominations as well as winning one in 1985 for Jazzin For Blue, a promotional video for his single “Blue Jean”. He also received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006.
The glamour of Bowie is really something that Lady Gaga has admired since the start of her career, and now she gets to embrace it herself. “I always felt that his glamour was something he was using to express a message to people that was very healing for their souls”, Gaga told The Hollywood Reporter. She also told the Reporter that Bowie inspired her to use “the theatre of your imagination to entertain people beyond their wildest dreams”, which she realized without that awareness she wouldn’t have found her place in popular culture.
Lady Gaga has had a highly celebrated year, from winning a Golden Globe for best performance in a limited series for her role as The Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel, as well as her amazingly well-received Sound of Music medley celebrating the film’s 50th anniversary, Lady Gaga is not just the pop star in the crazy costumes anymore. Gaga will have to return to her pop roots to immortalize the British pop star and his countless hits. The way Lady Gaga changes her looks constantly will also lend a hand performing the ever-changing style of David Bowie.
