For London Fashion Week we have spotted lots of dewy, no makeup-makeup, featuring worn-in and earthy tones, and hints of feverish beauty in effortless-makeup-look trends. But, we have also spied a couple of quirky makeup looks that have taken a more unconventional approach; and they deserve a mention…
Gareth Pugh
Beware any clown-phobia people out there; if this makeup trend takes off you may want to take precaution before you leave the house next Spring. Gareth Pugh went all out for his ‘Clown Chic’ makeup looks for LFW with make up by Val Garland…

Gareth Pugh wanted his style to honour the famous district of Soho, which is the new home for LFW this season. The designer paid tribute to the local sex shops, taking inspiration from an area he was familiar with from his University days….
“That was the idea, I knew the BFC were moving here when I first started designing the collection so it helped me to imagine what I wanted to do for the show because I love Soho, Soho is where I went to St Martins, it’s a big part of my London education so it felt really great to come back and do something fun… For the collection we wanted the whole thing to seem quite polished and slick but also quite disturbing and a little bit dark, so we add the stocking and the makeup. We wanted them to look a little bit grotesque, in a very glamourous way. I like red a lot, it’s strength and power and danger and blood, there are a lot of reasons why I love red.”

At the Gareth Pugh show the models’ skin was prepped with MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation and Mineralise Foundation, before being covered over with a nylon stocking. Eyelids were swept on with MAC Acrylic Paint and brows were drawn in with liquid liner Rapid Black Penultimate Eye Liner with even more black acrylic paint on top. Lipstick was also painted in acrylic paint for solid shapes. Val certainly doesn’t mess around..
Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne Westwood gets some statement eyes in there for one of the makeup looks as she brings a political message to her stunning Red Label show on day three of London Fashion Week.

The 74-year-old’s collection featured a number of strong makeup looks; with some matted hair in there too…

Another of Vivienne’s strong looks this season, featured highlighting at it’s fullest. Using pearlescent coloured pigments, Val Garland created this Mother Of Pearl inspired makeup look. MAC’s senior artist Dominic Skinner posted another of Vivienne Westwood’s looks for LFW, captioning it “One of the looks from @viviennewestwoodofficial. Keyed by @thevalgarland… The inspiration was mother of pearl“
