You’ve probably heard of, or even tried, K-Beauty already, but now it is time to make room on your counter for J-Beauty.
Looking at Japan’s beauty history and average amount of money spent on cosmetics in Japan (13.2 billion in 2016), it is easy to see that they take cosmetics and skincare very seriously.
K Beauty is known for sheet masks infused with ingredients like cactus and snail. J-Beauty focuses on simplicity by using more minimalistic routines to achieve great skin. Instead of using multiple products, they look at how to best apply them by using massaging and facials. (They’re even known for face shaving.)
If you want to stay ahead of the trend or you’re looking for something new to troubleshoot your skin, here are some products you might want to try out!
RMK Cleansing Milk soothes and moisturises your skin while taking the dirt of the day off of your face. You can get it at Selfridges for £30.
DHC Cleansing Oil brought the Japanese Oil cleansing trend to the UK in the 1960s, and it has been gaining traction since. It wipes away foundation and mascara in a few easy swipes. Get it from Amazon for £24.
Shiseido has released Waso, a line of skincare inspired by Washoku, a natural Japanese food tradition. It uses ingredients like carrots, loquat, honey, tofu and white jelly mushrooms to help balance, hydrate, and build young skin’s resistance to stressors, while also eliminating oiliness and visible pores.
Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion is perfect for all skin types as well. The lotion has a low acidic content for even those with sensitive skin. It keeps the skin hydrated by slowing the rate of water evaporation from the skin. The acid is already produced in your body naturally, but applying more should plump the skin and help it heal as well. It is available on Amazon for £10.50.
With great skincare comes great skin, so hopefully J-Beauty will help get your face into tip top shape!
